Course Description: In this class you can expect to develop and enhance your drawing, painting & design skills; in a number of different media revolving around some historical & cultural themes. We will be looking at design elements and principles within each project. Tasks will include both observational and imaginative design. Media will include graphite, pastel, prisma colored pencil, various paints/inks, cut papers and Gold leaf/gold foil.
Learner Outcomes: Students will Evaluate and Use the Principles of Design & the Elements of Art in every piece.
- Beginner or advanced students will learn how to improve their problem solving skills.Students will become familiar with drawing/design/painting media. Students will be able to verbalize and analyze concepts of art in classroom group critiques.
Plan to enjoy Art! Plan to have group critiques. Plan on keeping a sketchbook. Plan on seeing slides. Plan on setting up an art show. Plan on sharing ideas. Think with originality - Use Your Imagination - Be Unique! Build your portfolio with confidence and verve, try new ideas. Can you make judgments on what is good art? Due dates for class projects are stated at the start of each task. Most practical tasks are completed in class time. Students are encouraged to spend extra time if needed. The art studios are open until 5 pm everyday.

Evaluation: Students will be evaluated on the following criteria for each project:

Projects Outline: Sketchbook Cover & Setup, Mascot design, Fundamentals of Contour Line practice drawings, Leonardo da Vinci Value and Drawing Invention, Leger Shape/ Color painting, Mixed Media Collage Portraits, Design and Color theory (Vietnamese theme), Project with Ink techniques on a social issue.
